Ekamra Kshetra will soon be a Beggar-Free Zone!
Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) and the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA)have already initiated the process to make the EkamraKshetraaround Lingaraj Temple beggar-free. As a part of the beautification and developmental program of the temple, beggars in the region will be rehabilitated. Apart from this, another Social Inclusion scheme of the state government, ‘Sahaya’, will provide means of livelihood to these beggars.
BMC has already begun the rehabilitation work of these beggars in the Old Town area of Bhubaneswar. They will also assist the beggars who wish to return home. However, the beggars who do not wish to return home will be kept in shelter homes in Bhubaneswar. Several NGOs have been given the responsibility for survey and rehabilitation of these beggars.
Meanwhile, the land acquisition for the EkamraKshetra Heritage Project is nearly 90% complete. The land acquisition and pre-construction work for the 60 feet alternate road from SanitariumChhak to Lingaraj Temple have also begun.
